Screening Process: Step By Step Breakdown

I know we are all bothered about the screening process. A friend of mine completed her screening today and gave us a step by step breakdown of the process. With this everything will run smoothly and you will Know what to pack

UPDATED STEP BY STEP SCREENING PROCESS
By Olabisi Ibironke, I completed my screening process on the 8th of November 2017 and this step by step is from my recent experience.

STEP 1:  Go to the remita site: https://remita.net
Click on Pay a Federal government agency.
Name of MDA: Council of Legal Education
Name of service: Call to Bar
Amount: 30,000
An RRR Number will be given, keep the number and council of legal education's account number.

STEP 2: Go to the bank, get a bank slip, fill it. Title/ Name of Account: REMITA - Council of Legal Education (CLE's Account No that was given with your RRR No should be written beside CLE)

Account No : Fill your RRR number
Keep your remita receipt and bank teller

STEP 3: Make photocopies of the following :
1. Remita Receipt (1 Copy for record purposes, they don't want the unstamped one. Don't go and make numerous copies)
2. Teller (1 copy: for record purposes, original will be collected at lawschool)
3. Law School ID (1 copy)
4. LLB Certificate: 2 Copies
5. Check out pass( given from your hostels when vacating) 1 Copy
6. Law School Result page (print it and make 1 Copy)
(Don't waste your money making more copies, except for record purposes)

STEP 4: Go to NLS, Abuja Campus.
Show your ID Card or remita receipt at the gate.
Head to the Accounts building( it is the building opposite the Student Affairs building)
Proceed to the window of the building where the stamping is done
Present your original remita receipt and your original bank teller
Collect your stamped remita receipt
Make a copy of the stamped receipt( make sure you make a copy of this stamped receipt, you cannot go to the next stage without it)

STEP 5
Go to the Student Affairs building( building opposite the Account building- note that it is opposite as in the buildings are on the same right side of the road)
Arrange your original documents and copies together:
- Check out pass and copy
- Law school ID and copy
-LLB Certificate and copy
- stamped remita and copy
- Lawschool result page
In the words of a friend, your patience has to get there before you o and you have to be sharp and understand the queue where things are moving but consider your Neighbour and don't bounce them. But when the queue scatters, wo hustle time.

Verification Clearance will be attached to your remita and your original documents will be returned to you.

STEP 6:
Take a bike for 50 naira and head down to Afghanistan. Once you get there, head to the chart where papers are pasted. Check for your name and the table you fall under. Ask the Marshall for the location of your table. Go to your table. Collect your qualifying certificate, sign for collection and hand over the verification clearance and stamped remita receipt. You'll be handed a qualifying certificate and testimonial

STEP 7: Take a cab to Supreme Court. There are cabs in front of Afghanistan but they are charging 2k per person which is like a total of 8k for one cab whereas you can get a bike to gate for N50, another bike from gate N50 to Bwari Junction. At bwari junction, you can take drop to Supreme Court for a total of 2k to go and probably 2k to come back, a total of 4K, you can negotiate with the driver (this will pay you more if you are with a friend, this way you can split the cab fare and it will be cheaper. With all the expenses in this period, unless you have a fat pocket, the second option is a better option)

STEP 8:
Enter the Supreme Court. The guards will give you directions. I advice you to not fill the testimonial until you get to Supreme Court. When filling, write your name in the same order it is shown on your certificate but for the stamp they put, your surname first. It will be stamped and you'll be asked to pay N50 for your oath and your name will be enrolled in a giant book. Then you'll be directed to a person who will explain to you the next process and please pay close attention to what they say ( summary of what they said: for enrollment in Supreme Court (apparently, there's a different enrollment. Also I think we are to carry all these documents below to ICC)
1. photocopy the affidavit page and keep it, you will bring it on your call to bar date
2. Pay your practicing fee at access bank and keep teller and bring on call to bar date
3. Photocopy your qualifying certificate, bring it on call date
4. Another certificate will be given called call to bar certificate, bring it on call date
5. Bring a passport photograph
( note that after call, don't go home immediately, you'll return to Supreme Court with all the above) also you don't need to pay practicing fee immediately but pay before call date.

STEP 9

Get back to NLS, Abuja Campus. Photocopy your testimonial and qualifying certificate. 2 copies of each will be fine.
Head to the back of the Student affairs building. Hand over the following :
-Original testimonial
-Original Call to bar certificate and copy
- LLB certificate

They will tick your name and tell you to be checking the lawschool site for when the IV is ready and come back for your I.V!!!!!! When I asked for people that don't live in Abuja, i was told to come like 2 days before call to bar to pick it 😩😑)

So after the disheartening news, joy is renewed because you have then come to an end of your screening process. Congratulations! PLEASE GO EARLY!
